Samples of Storyboard work created for Pixar’s Turning Red. Enjoy!

Red Moon Ritual ☾

For this sequence I wanted to share some process behind the final storyboards.

Red Moon Ritual was a great experience of collaboration with the director. Domee gave the story team a brainstorming prompt that was along the lines of Mei gets rid of her Red Panda in a magical ritual that is grounded in some elements taken from Chinese culture and that feels specific to Mei and her family. After a great brainstorming session, I requested to take a stab at storyboarding the sequence because I felt so passionate towards it. We then extracted a list of beats that I beat boarded, and then storyboarded. I feel really proud of how we worked together to achieve this!

Mei and Ming - Brainstorm

Exploring Mei and Ming’s relationship, inspired by my relationship with my mom ❤️

Cautionary Tale

This scene was cut from the movie (a shorter version still remains, when Ming drives Mei out of the party), but I had a lot of fun playing with the dramatic mood and representing how bad Mei is feeling at that moment.
